I am here to introduce the newest and trendiest experience in the Burgh, the Winery Picnic Experience by Glam Picnic Co.! This experience is available at 5 wineries that have partnered with Glam Picnic (Ripepi, Red Fox Winery & Lounge, J&D Cellars, Black Dog Wine Company, and Thistlethwaite Vineyards). Each experience starts off with a wine tasting and tour of the grounds. The experience can accommodate up to 30 people. The one I attended was at Ripepi Winery. We sampled their Ripepi White, Valley Sunrise, and DeChaunac. The guided tasting and tour was led by winery owners who explained the history of the winery and the different grapes they grow and why. They also covered the different methods of blending and aging they use with their grapes and wines.
One of my favorite parts of the tour at Ripepi was when they showed us to the store room. There were two gorgeous stain glass windows in this room that were from the catholic school the owner used to teach at. Such a meaningful and beautiful touch!
When Janelle and Richard, the owners, took us to check out the vines, we were able to see all the different varieties they grow right here in PA. Some of the vines were 35 years old, CRAZY! This family owned business grows over 15 different types of grapes. I know what you’re thinking, there are over 15 types of grapes?? Well actually there’s over 15,000 types! Two grapes they grow on their vineyard that are exclusive to Ripepi on the east coast are the Melody and Skylar.
After the tour, we headed down to the table setup to enjoy a golden hour picnic. The stunning tablescape was wine themed and had every detail perfect. A branded wine glass will also be included for each guest to take home as a memory of the experience. You are able to purchase bottles of wine from the tasting room after your tasting of the 3 wines of your choice. These bottles can be enjoyed with your small bites or meal. You are able to upgrade your picnic by adding games, flowers, food, or even a private chef!
The bites included in our Winery Picnic Experience included an INCREDIBLE charcuterie spread from The Marketplace at Emerald Valley topped off with fruits, cheeses, spreads, meats, and nuts. For dessert, we had gourmet mini cakes and cookies by Popcorn Willy’s. My favorite was the blueberry mini cake with the butterflies and the cookies with the banana chips on top 😍
